Metal Roofing

Metal Roofs

Standing seam metal roofs are installed without exposed fasteners. We recommend this type of metal roof for a long lasting, watertight metal roof. Exposed fastener metal roofs are popular due to being more cost effective. However, we typically don’t recommend this type of metal roof as it will typically have more roof issues. Metal roof shingles are another option and provide an attractive metal roof.

  • Pre-painted metal roofs are typically made from aluminum or steel

  • Metal roofs are also available in copper and other durable metals

Slate Roofing Roanoke

Slate Roofs

Slate roofs are roof tiles made from slate quarries. They are durable and provide dependable weather protection. Slate roofs are heavy and the structure must be built to withstand the load. Synthetic slate is another option available to look similar to a slate roof. Synthetic slate or imitation slate weighs less and more structures are able to handle the load.  

  • Slate roofs can last well over 100 years

Attic Ventilation

Roof ventilation is often overlooked but can help lower the temperature in your attic during hot months as well as reduce ice dams in the winter. Ideally, an intake vent is needed at the eave or soffit to bring air into the attic. An exhaust vent located on the roof will allow that air to escape. Proper attic ventilation may also increase the lifespan of your roof.

Shake Roofs

Wood shakes provide a beautiful, aesthetically pleasing roof with many years of dependable weather protection. There are several types of wood used to make shakes including cedar, cypress, pine and redwood. The most commonly used shake around Roanoke and Southwest Virginia is cedar. 

  • Several sizes and thicknesses are available along with various levels of quality

  • Common lifespan of 15 to 30 years

Tile Roofs

Terra Cotta roof tiles provide a highly durable, beautiful and long lasting roof. This type of roof is not very common in Southwest Virginia but can be seen on occasion. There are many shapes, colors and options to choose from making this a highly customizable roof choice.
